Residents of the capital are well aware of the pollution levels they breathe in its streets. Road transport alone accounts for 47% of the city's emissions. An excessive percentage compared to cities like Barcelona (33.5%) or Valencia (23.7%), which already have territorial projects underway that are improving air quality.
As a result of this pollution, Madrid developed the controversial project “Madrid Central”, which limits vehicle access to specific areas of the city. The idea is to raise awareness among citizens so they switch their vehicle for a more sustainable one by 2025, the date set as the final deadline.
Currently, since not everyone can rush into buying an electric vehicle, a series of grants have been developed to encourage this change. On the part of the State, the MOVES Plans, which offer up to €7,000 to individuals anywhere in Spain. And, on the part of the Madrid City Council, a line of grants of up to €8,500 called “Madrid Cambia 360” has been approved.
What is Madrid Cambia 360?
They are the most ambitious grants for the purchase of efficient vehicles on the national scene for two main reasons:
- Firstly, because up to €5.5 million are offered, distributed across different subsidies.
- Secondly, because it does not exclude diesel and petrol vehicles with a C label, unlike other similar grants.
What are the requirements to apply for the subsidy?
There are only three requirements to correctly apply for your grant. These are:
- Being registered as a resident in the Community of Madrid
- Paying the IVTM in the capital
- Purchasing a vehicle with a 0, ECO or C label
What is the amount of grants offered?
Depending on the vehicle model you want to purchase, the amount of the subsidy varies.
- You can get up to €6,000 off the purchase of “zero emissions” vehicles. This group includes battery electric and hydrogen cars.
- If you want to purchase a vehicle with an ECO label, you can benefit from up to €3,000 off.
- Both amounts will be increased by an additional €2,500 if a vehicle without an environmental sticker is scrapped.
- If, on the other hand, you want to purchase a vehicle with a C label, you can opt to receive €2,500, provided you offer one without a label in exchange for scrapping.
How to apply for these grants?
Subsidies can be applied for, from October onwards, at any dealership affiliated with Cambia 360, with one month available to opt for the financing.
If you are a dealership, you must register for the programme and submit your application through the Madrid Cambia 360 website, as municipal sources explain.
