The importance of continuous training in the automotive industry
The electric vehicle is no longer a novelty. In 2017, registrations of pure electric vehicles grew by 71.57% compared to 2016, going from 2,856 units to 4,900, of which 1,630 -33%- correspond to the rental sector. If we add the rest of electric and hybrid options...
The electric vehicle is no longer a novelty. In 2017, registrations of pure electric vehicles grew by 71.57%, compared to 2016, going from 2,856 units to 4,900, of which 1,630 -33%- correspond to the rental sector. If we add the rest of the electric options and hybrid powertrains, the total amounts to 64,025 vehicles sold last year. That is 80.95% more than in 2016. And we are not counting electric and hybrid buses and trucks, which do exist.
The market is evolving very quickly. While just a few years ago, the anecdote was the brand that had an electric or hybrid model in its catalogue, now the rare thing is the one that does not have several models of this type.
Environmental aspects have, in a very short time, become decisive when considering the purchase of a new vehicle. Both due to the awareness and conviction of individuals and companies, and due to restrictions on the use of combustion vehicles in certain areas and cities. Nobody wants to buy a vehicle they will not be able to drive in the medium or short term.
Likewise, the Mobility offer we have at our fingertips from a smartphone, and the wide range of options for acquiring or enjoying a vehicle, is leading many individuals and companies to seriously consider whether it is still worth owning a vehicle.
As specialists in the Automotive sector that we are, at dealerBest, these data led us to question whether all dealership sales staff are adequately trained to provide sound advice on all aspects surrounding the electric vehicle.
Can a salesperson afford to shrug their shoulders when their customer asks them, for example, about the most suitable type of charging station and the costs it will involve? Or when a company asks them to prepare a cost-of-ownership analysis of an electric vehicle versus a combustion one? Or when they are asked about the differences in consumption peaks depending on the type of charging? Or about the choice between a Hybrid, or a Plug-in Hybrid, or about corporate Car Sharing?
These are questions that today, in May 2018, a large part of car salespeople do not know how to answer, or at best, do not feel comfortable or confident dealing with.
For this reason, at dealerBest we have developed the programme Training in Electric Vehicles and new mobility trends, whose first session we are launching next June 6th, in Madrid.
This course is designed and taught by true experts in Electric Vehicles, installations, and Mobility, and delves into all the aspects that an automotive sales professional must know in order to position themselves as an expert advisor to their audiences.
