At DealerBest we believe in coaching tools for the professional development of organizations and on this occasion we would like to introduce you to the Mandala tool, designed to work on an aspect that is so important in any organization: its vision of the future, ensuring that this vision is accompanied by its values and is consistent with its strategy and objectives.
Are we prepared as an organization within our sector to move in the direction we want? The answer is not always easy and requires space for reflection on the part of the people leading the way forward. Why space for reflection? To be able to work in the right context on the pillars that will enable us to be the best version of ourselves as an organization, and that the day-to-day obligations together with short-term planning prevent us from stopping to work on this part. Having a clear vision of our future will help us chart the right strategy, so that we are the ones who decide the future we want rather than moving forward without a clear direction. The way we deal with the obstacles we will encounter along the way will be very different, and so will the results we achieve.
The Mandala is precisely a creative tool that facilitates this space. Among its many benefits, it is a tool that can be used individually with management, middle managers, high-potential individuals…, or also in groups with management teams, sales teams, or other key departments. This tool makes it possible to align the organization's vision of the future across different departments during times of internal change, organizational culture shifts, management transitions, or changes imposed by the environment within our sector, among many other examples.
Do all departments or people in our organization share the same vision of the future? How important is this for all of us to move forward in the desired direction?
Sometimes we set very clear objectives and the result achieved falls far short of what was expected. What went wrong? The first aspect that is very useful to review is whether we all shared the same vision of the future.
The coach will work on the vision using this tool, and the result will be a unique vision shared by all members, so that they are prepared to work towards the objectives pursued by the organization. The next step should go hand in hand with another tool that helps us design the action plan we are going to implement to achieve the objectives. In short, the Mandala is a perfect tool for achieving a single direction and commitment from management and the rest of the organization's members.
What makes the Mandala a more productive tool than others? Working on the vision from the less rational part of our brain, which we are sometimes not used to working with. What is sometimes difficult to visualize and explain in words emerges naturally and spontaneously through images. The saying that a picture is worth a thousand words takes on real meaning here. Images, music, and the coach's guidance allow us to work in a much more productive way than other tools commonly used in business practice.
In a single session, the coach is able to give the group or the individual a clear vision, so the immediate benefit is saving time in meetings or communications and a significant dose of commitment from everyone, who feel that the organization counts on them to achieve what it sets out to do and that they have a space to share their doubts, their fears, and their collective strengths.
The Mandala works on four key aspects in quadrants: vision, or the ideal future situation as if we were already there; learning, or what we have learned, incorporated, or developed to reach the ideal situation; baggage, the brakes, obstacles, or fears that prevented us from moving forward; and finally, what gives us energy or gets us going.
Our latest work with this tool at DealerBest has been with our valued Acevas dealer network in a session with an unusual format, with more than 40 managers from the network… They worked side by side on their joint vision as a dealer network…
We take great satisfaction in the growing commitment of organizations to coaching programs within their training plans, understanding it as a more effective methodology than traditional training in key areas of the business.
