Which brands are already betting on new mobility?

That vehicle purchasing is evolving towards "pay-per-use" is a fact.

In this article, we are not going to keep commenting on what is already evident for all of us working in the automotive sector.

Today, of course, there is still a good "slice of the pie" representing those customer segments that "buy" the security of having a car nearby and at any time. As well as that part of the market that is still getting familiar with mobility as a service, but which will sooner or later cross the line due to flexibility and price.

Anyway, this is an article for the most sceptical. Those who need tangible proof of the arrival of new times. If that is your case, here we bring you the brands that have already been marketing mobility services for some years, both in the city and in the countryside.

The brands offering mobility services (CaaS) in Spain

Here is a brief rundown of the brands with the greatest presence in the mobility-as-a-service or CaaS (Car as a Service) market:

  • PSA Group – Free 2 Move: PSA tops this ranking with Free 2 Move for one reason: its wide range of mobility services. Currently, Free 2 Move offers, from a single platform, the possibility of paying for a car, motorbike or even a scooter, also including VTC mobility contracting. In other words, big-time mobility! But always flexible.
  • BMW and Mercedes – Share Now: Share Now is the most international carsharing and subscription car service. So far, it sells mobility in more than 5 European countries and in up to 16 of their cities.
  • Hyundai – VIVe: VIVe is undoubtedly the most groundbreaking mobility-as-a-service bet, as they have freed shared mobility from its eternal natural environment: the city. VIVe is a rural carsharing service that the Korean brand has backed to connect and improve the quality of life of inhabitants of rural Spain. And 100% electric and respectful of the ecosystems where it already operates.
  • KIA with Repsol – Wible: Wible is another major player in mobility. This union between the Spanish oil company and the Korean car manufacturer started in carsharing format, and today includes vehicle rental periods of more than several weeks.

We also cannot forget brands such as Volkswagen, which launched its intra-European proposal under the name WeShare, or ZITY from Renault. As well as SEAT, which bet on RESPIRO (although last June it stated it wanted to sell it).

And finally, if we talk about selling mobility, we also cannot forget all those companies offering rental services. Because, after all, they are offering the same thing: mobility formulas more versatile than the classic purchase of a car.

A reflection on mobility models that dealerships can invoice

Anyway, if selling mobility has entered the market as a more "adaptable" formula to meet people's need to move around, why are dealerships, who truly know customer needs first-hand, not the ones marketing it? Are dealerships not the ones who should lead the new mobility?

There you have our reflection. In any case, whether it is the manufacturer or the points of sale that benefit from selling mobility, a new way of getting around has arrived, and it seems to be here to stay. So, ask yourself whether you want to be an observer, a follower or a creator of the new mobility.
